Privacy (Datenschutz)
Overview
GuruHits is a static documentation and history site. It was built to preserve a music quiz from 1997–2014, not to collect data about its visitors. We have deliberately kept its data footprint as small as a working website allows. This page explains, honestly, what that means.
The data controller for this site is Euregio.Net AG, represented by Joe Savelberg. For any privacy question or request, contact webmaster@guruhits.com.
What We Do Not Collect
The history pages of this site contain:
- no web analytics and no visitor tracking of any kind;
- no advertising and no ad-related identifiers;
- no third-party scripts, embeds, social-media widgets, or trackers;
- no cookies on the history pages.
The original 2001 site used Urchin / Google Analytics and carried advertising code. All of that tracking and advertising code has been removed in this reconstruction. It is not present here.
Server Access Logs
Like any website, this site is delivered by a web host whose servers keep standard access logs. These typically record items such as the requesting IP address, the time of the request, the page or file requested, the referring page, and the browser's user-agent string. This logging is performed by the host as a normal part of operating and securing a server.
These logs are retained only briefly and are used for technical operation and security (for example, diagnosing errors and mitigating abuse). They are not combined with other data to build profiles of visitors, and they are not used for analytics or advertising.
Anonymised Leaderboard
The public leaderboard shown on this site is anonymised. The player names are fictional, while the real scores and ranks from the original game have been kept so the competition can be shown faithfully. No real player can be identified from the leaderboard.
Historical Correspondence
Where this site quotes historical email correspondence (for example, the SABAM licensing files), the names of third parties have been reduced to a first name plus last initial. This preserves the documentary record while protecting the identities of the individuals involved.
The /play Reconstruction
This site optionally offers a read-only reconstruction of the game at /play. To run the game in your browser, it sets a single session cookie. This cookie exists only to operate the game during your visit and disappears when the session ends. The reconstruction stores nothing about you on the server: it keeps no account, no profile, and no record of your play.

Your Rights
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), where it applies to any personal data we process, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- request rectification of inaccurate data;
- request erasure of your data;
- object to certain processing of your data;
- lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your country.
Because this site collects no analytics, tracking, or account data, in most cases we simply hold no personal data to act on — but you are welcome to ask, and we will tell you plainly what, if anything, exists.
